REAS 2023: a comparison between the institutions that gives voice to the Italian emergency management system

An exhibition showcase for the emergency sector, but also a moment of dialogue in which institutions can discuss the key issues of the moment and disseminate their initiatives to the community. This is the identity of REAS, the international exhibition dedicated to civil protection, fire prevention and first aid scheduled from 6 to 8 October at Centro Fiera Montichiari.

On the occasion of the twenty-second edition, REAS increases the presence of institutional delegations from the Italian regions. The fair is seen as a useful moment to present initiatives, projects and specific activities programmed at an institutional level. The result is an all-round comparison on the main challenges involving civil protection in prevention, monitoring and intervention activities on the territory. Furthermore, such an articulated institutional representation makes REAS an essential fair for understanding the specific characteristics of the Italian emergency management system. This is confirmed by the presence at the fair of delegations from abroad, in particular from Germany, by virtue of the partnership between Centro Fiera Montichiari and Hannover Fairs International GmbH which links REAS to INTERSCHUTZ, the most important event in the world dedicated to safety. In addition to the presence of delegations from the vfdb, the German fire prevention association, and the DFV, the German firefighters association, the return to the fair of THW – Bundesanstalt Technisches Hilfswerk, the rescue and emergency management of the German Federal Government. After a year’s break due to the need to supervise the territory of origin for some extraordinary interventions, THW operators and volunteers will be back at REAS to illustrate, as per tradition, their operating models and exhibit some special vehicles used in the protocols operational.

REAS, therefore, brings to the fair the technologies and services dedicated to civil protection, first aid and fire prevention, promoting the comparison between all the realities that, at the different operational levels, take part in the Italian emergency management system. One of the most awaited events of the 2023 edition of REAS responds to this approach: the AIB Round Table dedicated to forest fire prevention issues. The initiative promoted as every year by the magazine “La Protezione Civile Italiana”, will give the representatives of the various Italian regions, operators and experts in the sector the opportunity to take stock of the season of interventions and the needs related to forest firefighting. The goal is to share data, analyzes and specific knowledge of the individual territories, to improve control and intervention strategies.

From 6 to 8 October, therefore, REAS will give a voice to those who, as operators and volunteers, dedicate their commitment and energy to emergency management. Another of the initiatives that go in this direction is the second edition of the “Photo contest REAS“, promoted by REAS in collaboration with the Photogek Fenaroli atelier. The photographic contest is aimed at volunteers in the emergency sector, called to tell their operational experience through photography. The shots will be able to portray the activities carried out in the field and the services provided in emergency contexts but also the daily activity that is carried out within an association or group active in the area. The theme of the 2023 edition is “Emergency management: the value of teamwork”.

REAS 2023 to sell out: the fire-fighting sector is growing

The 2023 edition of REAS, the International Exhibition for Rescue, Fire Fighting, Disaster Relief and Security, is approaching which, from 6 to 8 October, will bring together all the main players in the world linked to emergency management at Centro Fiera Montichiari. An appointment now in its twenty-second edition which will involve bodies, government bodies, associations and voluntary groups, with the presence at the fair of the most important manufacturing and commercial companies dealing with fire prevention, civil protection and first aid.

In terms of exhibition space, next October’s event is about to sell out. The excellent results of the 2022 edition favored the reconfirmation of all the main companies from last year, to which was added a significant growth in the fire-fighting sector. This is a constant in recent years: the Montichiari show has once again become a point of reference for the major international players in the sector who participate with the aim of presiding over the Italian market. The event will give the opportunity to present new models and equipment, with dedicated test areas and display of special vehicles also in the external area.

Internationalization is one of the strategic objectives that REAS has pursued over the years, thanks above all to the partnership with INTERSCHUTZ of Fiera Hannover which favors the presence of buyers and delegations from abroad at the fair, with concrete repercussions for the territory.

REAS 2023 will also focus on technologies at the service of civil protection and first aid, a sector in which aids and means intended for people with disabilities will play a significant role. A new macro-area, on the other hand, will be dedicated to occupational safety. The aim is to reward the activity of the numerous emergency companies that develop products and devices that are also used for safety in the workplace.

In recent weeks, the program of conferences and seminars is being completed, which will focus on content and key topics for civil protection and fire prevention. REAS will be, as per consolidated tradition, an opportunity to take stock of forest fire prevention which, every year, requires increasingly punctual management, due not only to the peculiarities of the Italian territory which expose wooded areas to a high risk but also to the negative consequences of increasing drought and average temperatures. In addition to being a meeting point between the institutions involved in emergency management, REAS will offer an overview of the new technologies available to operators starting, for example, with the use of drones not only in rescue operations but also in monitoring and prevention. For operators and volunteers who participate in REAS every year, visiting the fair means investing in their own training. Increasing one’s technical background and perfecting operational and regulatory knowledge is essential for those who are part of groups, associations and institutions that take part in the national emergency management protocol. REAS will offer a program of conferences, demonstration sessions, round tables, thematic corners and contests that focus on training.
